I am happy to be writing another magazine column as the principal sponsor of the Otago Property Investors Association. We have enjoyed building relationships with the organisation and the wide range of members within. We are looking forward to meeting more of you at the upcoming events and our local adviser, Graeme Magorian, will be presenting at the June AGM. I really value our client relationships and I am enjoying seeing these relationships grow over time.
As always, it’s important to consider the changes we are seeing and how they relate to your portfolio and position. At the moment, we are seeing a general market slow-down nationwide. This means that it’s a great time to re-enter the market as a buyer. Opportunities are always out there and assessing your position regularly can help you to ensure you’re in a great position when the time comes to secure a new property. Keeping your investment goals in mind, along with understanding your financing ability, means that you can be ready to secure an attractive property in an ideal market, when the opportunity arises.
Now is also a great time to review your portfolio. While it’s always beneficial to stay on top of your portfolio, times of change introduce opportunity. It’s important to ask: Are your rates working for you? Due to the market slow-down, we are seeing some really good deals at the moment. The banks are on the hunt for new business and appear to be more flexible when it comes to rates and financing. As far as the preferred rate strategy goes, annual roll-overs are ideal in the current environment.
I believe being flexible in an ever-changing market will continue to be beneficial. It allows you to remain in control of your investments and make sure they continue to work for you. Most importantly, I believe it allows you to take advantage of opportunities when they arise.
While the market is always changing, our focus remains the same: helping our valued clients achieve their property goals. Our team is highly experienced in banking, investment, housing, commercial and farming industries. In addition to this, our insurance specialist, Craig Collins, can work with you to protect your investments and your future. We are proud to be one of the largest adviser firms in the South Island, meaning we have access to a wide range of products to offer our clients. We are trustworthy and approachable – both as an organisation and as individuals. We’re here to help, so when you see one of our advisers at an OPIA event, don’t be afraid to come and have a chat.
